In 2015, a free clinic was established in Turkey to provide medical care for Syrian refugees who had fled the devastation of war. Among the first local doctors to join the clinic was Dr. Kasa, who specialized in family medicine. For Dr. Kasa, the daily walk from his home to the clinic was a source of joy and purpose.

After three years of unemployment, Dr. Kasa found new meaning in his work at the clinic. He once shared, “Thanks to the free clinic, I found the meaning of work again. Although sometimes tired, my heart is happy.” His commitment was unwavering—he worked year-round, determined to serve for as long as he could.

A Sudden Loss, a Lasting Legacy

Unfortunately, in 2019, Dr. Kasa passed away unexpectedly from heart disease. Yet, the compassion and dedication he embodied did not end with his passing. His son, Majid, chose to follow in his father’s footsteps, becoming both a doctor and a volunteer. Majid’s journey began while his father was still alive, helping distribute blankets and participating in aid distributions. After Dr. Kasa’s death, Majid decided to fully embrace his father’s mission, describing it as the most precious legacy left to him.

Continuing the Mission

Majid reflected, “Through my father’s involvement, I learned the true meaning of selfless giving. Generosity has no limits. I learned to give in many ways, especially to patients and those in need.” He now actively participates in volunteer training and outreach, turning his grief into motivation to serve others.

The Power of Family Values

Majid believes that when family members share strong values and common goals, they naturally become carriers of their parents’ mission, continuing to give back to the community. This sentiment is echoed by Ajjam, a former colleague of Dr. Kasa and now a fellow volunteer trainee. Ajjam shared, “In Dr. Kasa and his son, we have all witnessed the passing of the torch of love.”

The story of Dr. Kasa and Majid is a testament to the enduring power of compassion and the importance of passing on values of service and kindness. Their dedication continues to inspire colleagues and the community, ensuring that the spirit of giving lives on.
