Presidential Recognition 

In a milestone year, Tzu Chi USA's 35th anniversary was honored by former President Joe Biden, who sent a congratulatory letter to acknowledge the organization's significant contributions. The letter was personally delivered by Paul Chang, Lead of Region 9 Southwest for the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, to Tzu Chi USA's headquarters on December 21, 2024, where it was received by CEO Debra Boudreaux.

President Biden praised Tzu Chi's profound influence on American communities, highlighting the organization's steadfast commitment to the principle that "all people are created equal." He emphasized that in the face of natural disasters, social upheavals, and political changes, organizations like Tzu Chi bring hope and positive energy, making him optimistic about America's future. 

The President's letter not only recognized the efforts of Tzu Chi volunteers but also showcased the value of their selfless dedication to humanity. The letter specifically mentioned the importance of religious forces in stabilizing society and hearts, resonating with Tzu Chi founder Master Cheng Yen's New Year wishes: 

“May all people’s hearts be purified, 
may all societies be in harmony, 
and may the world be free of disasters.” 

Extending Gratitude and Congratulations

In his speech, Paul Chang shared, "Tzu Chi volunteers have made tremendous contributions to American society, especially in emergencies and disasters, for new immigrants, and individuals and families in need of social care. You have always been there to provide help and to be a light of hope for them. Congratulations to Tzu Chi USA on its 35th anniversary." 

During his visit, Paul Chang also saw Tzu Chi's "Jing Si Folding Furniture," learning about its application in emergency relief, further affirming Tzu Chi's innovative practice of combining technology and compassion. 

Strengthening Community Support 

This event not only solidified Tzu Chi's role as a vital pillar in American society but also injected more confidence and motivation for future service. Tzu Chi's continuous efforts to support the vulnerable and promote social stability have been recognized at the highest level, inspiring volunteers to keep spreading love and compassion.
