On April 13, 2025, a new chapter began for seventeen young people in Bandung, Indonesia, as they were formally inaugurated into the Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association to become a "Tzu Ching." This ceremony was more than a formality; it marked the commitment of a new generation to carry forward a spirit of kindness and service, ensuring that the seeds of compassion continue to grow in their community.

This is more than just a student group; it is a space where young individuals learn, grow, and dedicate themselves to helping others. Through their inauguration, these students bring fresh energy and hope to the path of compassion.

A Lesson in Gratitude

The day's activities began not with a lecture, but with direct action. The group was divided to visit twenty care recipient families who receive assistance for education, medical care, or living expenses. This experience was designed to be the first step for the prospective members, grounding their journey in a real understanding of the needs within their community.

"Today's activities started with home visits," explained volunteer Intan Vandhery (王鑽娘). "The prospective members visited the care recipients to see their living situations firsthand. From this, they learn to be grateful and content."

This approach aims to do more than just introduce the various volunteer services. It guides the youth to recognize the deeper meaning of life, fostering an appreciation for what they have and an empathy for others.

"We are very happy to have seventeen new students join Tzu Ching," Intan Vandhery continued. "In the past, most of our members in Bandung were students who came from other cities to study. For the last three years, we have been focusing on engaging local youth, hoping they will become a vital force, actively participating in activities and becoming the hands that comfort those in need."

From Curiosity to Commitment

Dhimas Rizki Respati, a student from Padjadjaran University, was one of the seventeen new members. He was filled with joy as he shared his experience of becoming part of the Tzu Chi family, a place where he has found a warmth he had never felt before.

"I am very happy to be here," Dhimas said with a smile. "Everyone is so open and welcoming, like a family. It's very comfortable. This is a different kind of place, where there is no conflict, only mutual support."

Dhimas’s journey with the organization began with an invitation from a friend. Initially, he was simply curious about the charitable activities his friend was involved in, but his first experience left a deep impression on him.

"It was a Year-End Blessing ceremony, and I was deeply moved," he recalled. "It was completely free to attend, and we even received gifts. People who didn't know each other were willing to give selflessly. At that moment, I thought, 'Wow, these are truly good people, and I want to be one of them.'"

Finding a Second Home

For many, the volunteer community becomes a place of learning and personal growth. Nofi Puspitasari Hadi, who has been part of Tzu Ching for three years, considers her time invaluable.

"I feel very comfortable here," Nofi shared. "In these three years, I've learned so many new things, met many friends, and learned to cherish everything I have. I've also learned to share these positive experiences with more people."

Nofi’s connection began after she saw a friend's social media story about a Tzu Chi event. Her curiosity led her to join.

"At first, I just saw my friend's story and decided to go with her," Nofi remembered with a laugh. "I used to be a quiet person and wouldn't have dared to attend an event without a friend. But slowly, I saw many people rediscovering themselves here. I started to explore myself and gradually unlocked my own potential."

As more young people join the ranks of volunteers, the spirit of compassion can spread even further. Intan Vandhery expressed her aspirations for the new members: "I hope this group of young people will inspire more youth in the West Java and Bandung areas to join Tzu Ching. Let the charitable activities continue to expand in the community, carrying on the spirit of compassion."
