The purpose of learning from Buddhist scriptures is not merely to grasp the teachings, but to manifest and apply them in daily life. It is through walking the Bodhisattva Path—moving from learning to application—that we cultivate the Dharma and truly awaken.
We are honored to invite you to the 2026 Tzu Chi Global Symposium for Common Goodness, co-organized by the Tzu Chi Foundation and Harvard FAS CAMLab (Cognitive Aesthetic Media Lab).
Theme: Applied Buddhism and the Contemporary Bodhisattva Path
As we look toward the horizon of religious studies and practice, we must ask: How does the timeless wisdom of Buddhism evolve in our modern world?
This symposium seeks to examine the future of Buddhism through three essential lenses:
- Theoretical Reinterpretation: Bridging ancient wisdom with modern intellectual discourse.
- Organizational Practice: Examining how the Bodhisattva spirit manifests in contemporary humanitarian efforts.
- Aesthetic Expression: Exploring how art and media (via CAMLab) can translate spiritual experiences for new audiences.
What to Expect
This forum will convene Buddhist scholars, religious practitioners, and humanities experts from seven countries and regions worldwide. Attendees will engage in:
- Academic Paper Presentations: Deep dives into the future of applied Buddhism.
- Roundtable Discussions: Collaborative dialogue on "Design Thinking After Buddhism."
