On April 3, 2024, Taiwan was struck by a powerful earthquake. The violent shaking instantly brought back memories of the devastating 921 Earthquake in 1999. With buildings tilted, bridges fractured, and major landslides in the mountain regions, it feels like a terrible nightmare unfolding all over again. People who lost their homes were left wondering how they'll ever find peace again.

Tzu Chi immediately activated its disaster relief and response mechanism, providing hot meals, blankets, partition tents, and multipurpose foldable beds to several temporary shelters, allowing residents in the shelters to have a safe and comfortable place to stay. For those whose homes have now become unlivable, we have provided emergency funds and follow-up care to provide some comfort to them.

For those who have lost their homes, the road to recovery will be long. As our relief effort enters the intermediate and long-term stages, Tzu Chi is working to help repair homes with repairable damage, and for homes that are beyond repair, Tzu Chi is collaborating with the government to help relocate families into temporary homes. We hope that those affected can have a safe and stable place to live as soon as possible, allowing them to find peace and stability.
