On March 8, 2025, the Tzu Chi Jing Si Hall in Bandung, Indonesia, welcomed fifty-one care recipients for a heartfelt reunion. Among them was Ferry Hadian, who has been facing the challenges of spinal tuberculosis for years. Since receiving support from Tzu Chi in 2022, Ferry’s life has undergone a profound transformation. Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “With Tzu Chi’s help, I’ve found my way out of despair.”

Finding the Courage to Seek Help

Ferry’s battle with spinal tuberculosis left him bedridden and paralyzed, entirely reliant on his siblings for daily care. For three years, he was unable to eat on his own or perform basic tasks, and his days felt heavy with hopelessness. “There were moments when I thought about ending my life because I simply didn’t know what else to do,” Ferry confessed, recalling his darkest days.

Despite the overwhelming challenges, his determination to heal remained steadfast. While searching online, Ferry stumbled upon Tzu Chi’s social media account, an encounter that would change the course of his life. “I gathered all my courage and applied for help. Since then, Tzu Chi has been by my side every step of the way,” he said.

Tzu Chi’s assistance included providing transportation support for regular physical therapy, a crucial element in Ferry’s recovery journey. Slowly but surely, his condition began to improve. Although he still requires a walking aid, Ferry has regained much of his mobility. He expressed his deep gratitude, saying, “The volunteers have been there for me throughout my treatment, offering unwavering care and support. I’ll always be thankful for what they’ve done.”

A Gathering of Love and Warmth

The reunion, lovingly called “Coming Home,” was more than just a chance to reconnect—it symbolized the nurturing bond Tzu Chi aims to create with care recipients. Laura, a Tzu Chi volunteer, shared, “We see Tzu Chi as a home for them. Beyond providing aid, we hope to foster meaningful connections and encourage them on their journey.”

The event also offered an opportunity to introduce the recipients to Tzu Chi’s philosophy and mission in greater depth. Volunteers distributed aid packages to all attendees, which included thoughtful essentials such as sarongs, rice, cooking oil, peanuts, coffee, snacks, dates, coconut milk, tea leaves, mushroom seasoning, and honey.

However, the gathering wasn’t solely about material assistance; it was a celebration of human connection and mutual support. By sharing love and warmth, Tzu Chi volunteers hope to sow seeds of compassion in every heart, embodying the true essence of their mission.
